He Didn't Know Zachary by Ann St. John

Zachary’s only sister is getting married on Saturday.

I am happy for her. She is marrying a lovely man. I think he will bring out the best in her and I think she will do the same for him. At first I didn’t like Eric. It was weird. He is a likeable guy! He was obviously crazy about Maryellen but still……..I just didn’t let myself get close to him and it bothered me quite a bit.
 
I got to thinking…..WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU ANN???? (That is how I actually talk to myself) and then it struck me…..he didn’t know Zachary…he will never know Zachary. Rationally I knew it was silly. Why are you punishing the love of Maryellen’s life for something he had absolutely no control over??? I’m not proud of this but it took me a couple of days to finally talk to Eric. I don’t remember the conversation well except that when I was done telling him how I felt he said basically, I wish I would have known him. (I told you he is a really likeable man!)
 
The essence of Zachary is everywhere. Sometimes when the wind blows I swear I feel him. And I was wrong---Of course Eric will know Zachary!! They are both now part of our family. On their wedding day I bet Zachary lets us know of his presence. He always did like parties.
